GPHG: Discovering all the Parmigiani Fleurier Awards

With unwavering pride and passion for the mechanical arts, we have been honored by the 30 jury members and the nearly 850 members of the GPHG Academy on multiple occasions since 2017. We invite you to discover these timepieces, born of a deep commitment to Haute Horlogerie.

TONDA CHRONOR ANNIVERSAIRE:
First In-House 5 Hz Chronograph, Crafted in Gold

The first prize, awarded in 2017, centers around a rare piece: the Tonda Chronor Anniversaire. It was unveiled for the brand’s 20th anniversary. It is one of the last chronographs from an independent manufacture, notably featuring a movement crafted in gold, a material choice almost unique in the present time. The movement incorporates numerous cutting-edge advancements aimed at enhancing its reliability, serving as a testament to the pinnacle of watchmaking craftsmanship. Operating at 5 Hertz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour, this movement achieves remarkable precision. The higher the oscillation frequency, the more precise the chronograph becomes.

Although the chronograph is one of the most common complications, it remains one of the most demanding. With its Chronor movement, Parmigiani Fleurier reaffirmed its dedication to producing calibers exclusively designed, made, and assembled in-house. The GPHG recognized this creative and technical effort, noting that the manufacture achieved this milestone in its 20th year with a movement just 8.5 mm thick.

TORIC HEMISPHERES RETROGRADE:
Second Prize of the 2017 Edition

In the same year, the Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde also claimed the prize in the travel watch category. Parmigiani Fleurier had two watches in the final, and both of them received their own awards. Adorned with a distinctive knurled bezel, a signature characteristic of the Toric lineage, this timepiece’s case was the inaugural creation conceived by Michel Parmigiani back in 1996. This pioneering model now combines timeless elegance with contemporary travel utility.

This prize rewarded its timeless character, as well as its complication. Unlike the vast majority of travel watches, the Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde allows for the adjustment of two time zones – even for places with time differences of half an hour or a quarter of an hour compared to the full hours set from GMT.

The Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde stands as the ultimate watch for travelers. Its dual time zone functionality permits the precise pairing of any two locations, accurate down to the nearest minute. Furthermore, it accommodates the pairing of locations with unusual time differences, including those with half-hour or quarter-hour variances, with full-hour times based on the Greenwich meridian.

HIJRI PERPETUAL CALENDAR:
World Premiere

The Hijri Perpetual Calendar, awarded in 2020, marks the third prize for Parmigiani Fleurier in the Perpetual Calendar category. Mirroring civilizations and societies, receptacles of beliefs and inexpressible phenomena such as moving shadows, alternating seasons and the lunar cycle, calendar function remain at the very heart of human activity. This cultural phenomenon has long fascinated the brand and its founder, Michel Parmigiani, for whom “the calendar is an eminently fascinating watchmaking complication, as it really is the mirror of civilisations“. Every detail of the impressive Hijri Perpetual Calendar has been meticulously considered. This timepiece features a 44.6 mm case and shows the hours and minutes, and date in Arabic numerals, the name and length of the months in Arabic calligraphy, as well as the abundant and the common years. It also features a moon phase in an aventurine sky and a power reserve of up to 48 hours.

TONDA PF AUTOMATIC 36MM:
A New Era

Finally, the Tonda PF Automatic 36 mm, recognized in 2022, marks a new milestone. The Tonda PF Automatic 36 mm, awarded in 2022, first and foremost reaffirms the accuracy of its design, its codes, and its distinctiveness. The Tonda has become the mainstay of the brand’s development, and the GPHG jury recognized its significance. The Tonda PF Automatic 36mm is a masterpiece of minimalism, featuring an exquisite grain d’orge hand-guilloché dial and dazzling baguette diamond hour markers set invisibly. Far beyond offering a simple reduction in diameter, the Tonda PF Automatic 36mm broadens the scope of the collection while remaining perfectly in harmony with its DNA, which transcends the traditional categorization of timepiece genres.
