The Tonda 1950 range is expanding to uncover the complexities of its mechanisms. The name of the Tonda 1950 is a tribute to Michel Parmigiani, as he was born in this year; while its aesthetics are a return to the brand's fundamental visual identity. With its skeletonised movement, the watch gives pride of place to technical watchmaking skill in all its beauty.

A finely decorated skeleton movement

The new calibre PF707 has been laid bare. The Tonda 1950 Skeleton exposes its gears, including components which never usually see the light of day. The main plate and bridges have been skeletonised to their very limits, only retaining as much substance as the watch needs to operate. This skeletonising process demands that a perfect balance be struck between laying the movement bare, to better unveil its mysteries, and retaining the rigidity of each component – essential in ensuring it works as designed.

An ultra-thin automatic movement

Three years of research and development were needed to successfully create the PF707 calibre, an ultra-thin automatic movement. The main challenge was to incorporate the rotor into the calibre itself without adding to its thickness. The solution was to integrate a micro-rotor made from platinum, to ensure inertia, into the calibre, which joined the Parmigiani Fleurier range of movements.

Design: Parmigiani Fleurier's DNA

The Tonda 1950 is the aesthetic essence of Parmigiani Fleurier as it showcases all the brand's signature codes – and nothing else. The thin, slender profile with the two emblematic lugs; the cut round crown; the delta-shaped hands – openworked to match the rest of the piece. Each of these aesthetic details form Parmigiani Fleurier's DNA and its instantly identifiable visual structure. The Tonda 1950 Skeleton reveals them in their simplest form.

mouvement extra-plat avec microrotor squelette

Skeletonising an ultra-thin movement is a masterful feat as, although its slim structure makes it elegant, it also makes it potentially fragile during the cutting process. This task was performed with infinite precision by the hands of master craftsmen, which contributes to the prestige of the PF707 movement. It owes its thickness of just 2.6 mm to the off-centred micro-rotor, which is incorporated directly into the main plate and provides it with 42 hours of autonomy.
