A perpetual calendar and a precision moon phase
Technically prestigious, the Tonda Centum has a perpetual calendar and a precision moon phase, two Haute Horlogerie complications which are only very rarely associated due to their respective complexity.
The Tonda Centum adjusts to the differing length of the months during the year, taking leap years into account. Not even the smallest correction is required, hence the name "perpetual". The date is indicated by a hand on its retrograde sector outside the dial; the day of the week appears at 9 o'clock and the month at 3 o'clock. The clarity and perpetual reliability of the indications lend the Tonda Centum its power.
The calibre PF333 pairs an automatic movement with a moon phase module so accurate it only needs correcting every 122 years. Highly technical and prestigious, the precision moon phase is one of Michel Parmigiani's most beloved complications, the complexity of which he has fully mastered. The Tonda Centum shows two representations of the moon – one each for the northern and southern hemispheres – which appear on the dial at 6 o'clock.
When designing this watch and its profile, Michel Parmigiani studied the simple and harmonious forms found in the natural world which surrounds us. The Tonda Centum reinterprets these inspirations with its iconic teardrop-shaped lugs and harmonious curves. The rose gold case is paired with a silver-coloured dial, and the white gold case comes with two dial variants: one dark brown, and one semi-openworked dial which reveals the complexity of the mechanism beneath.
Retrograde perpetual calendar movement
The PF333 movement, produced entirely in-house at the Parmigiani Fleurier manufacture, has the QP mechanism on the main plate, to which a module is added for the precision moon phase. This automatic movement has a 55-hour power reserve, thanks to its two series-mounted barrels. This device stabilises the distribution of energy in the movement and increases the reliability of its rate.
