The unique Kalpa Tourbillon Cyclone has a mother of pearl marquetry dial which, through its colour gradation and subtle fragmentation, reflects the power of the natural phenomenon from which it takes its name.
One by one, the mother of pearl segments are placed around the tourbillon cage which represents the epicentre. Each of these is selected for its precise shade to ensure the ensemble produces a gradation of blues, from light in the centre, darkening as they move out towards the edge. They are cut into trapezoidal shapes and arranged to recreate the fractured appearance that only a cyclone, a force of nature, could produce.
Designed concentrically around the tourbillon, the fresco focuses the eye on the exceptional complication. And for good reason, this Kalpa is fitted with a 30-second tourbillon, exclusive to Parmigiani Fleurier watchmaking and a manufacturing challenge. Rotating twice per minute rather than once, this tourbillon doubles the compensating effect on the force of gravity. This hand-wound movement has a double barrel mounted in series, giving it a power reserve of one week. The movement bridges are hand-bevelled and every surface is decorated to the highest standards of Haute Horlogerie. The platinum case is set with 215 baguette diamonds, totalling 11.88 carats. Finally, the Hermès strap has a blue colour as remarkable as its name “blue tempest”, ensuring that every part of the Kalpa Tourbillon Cyclone is in harmony with its theme, right to the end of the strap.
