Unveiled in 2008, the rose gold Kalparisma collection became the first Parmigiani Fleurier watch for women to feature a self-winding mechanical movement. The Kalparisma Nova Galaxy takes its name from an aventurine dial, evoking the shimmering of a starlit sky thanks to the tiny copper inclusions of the aventurine glass. Overflowing with feminine symbolism and a striking elegance, the Kalparisma Nova Galaxy is an iconic part of the Parmigiani Fleurier collection for women.
The dial-making entity of the Parmigiani Fleurier Watchmaking Centre used aventurine glass to create this highly unique watch. The particles of midnight-blue glass are interspersed with golden copper inclusions that enhance this composition, so challenging to create on the minute scale of a dial. A stone-set rose gold bezel continues the play of light to the very edge of the piece to make the watch truly exceptional.
A truly poetic incarnation of the small seconds, this star makes one revolution every minute. The "Nova" takes its inspiration from an antique piece which had been restored in the Parmigiani Fleurier workshops. It was a complex automaton, complete with a star, which captured the imagination of the restorers. The originality and femininity of its symbol was recreated on the Kalparisma Nova Galaxy, which forms a tribute to its source of inspiration, the Collection Maurice-Yves Sandoz.
The shape of the Kalparisma Nova Galaxy case is the classic "tonneau", one of the first designs that Michel Parmigiani created for his brand. This form is based on the application of the golden ratio, a geometrical reference which provides a harmonious ratio of proportions. The case and its lugs, the angle of which has been carefully calculated to describe a perfect curve, sit ergonomically on the female wrist.
The calibre PF331 is the first self-winding mechanical movement from Parmigiani Fleurier. The movement has a modular design which allows for a diverse range of Kalparisma versions. This movement offers the finest Haute Horlogerie finishes you would expect from Parmigiani Fleurier, and ones which very few brands would apply to such a mechanism. The bridges are sandblasted, drawn out or "Côtes de Genève" decorated, then bevelled by hand and, finally, rhodium-plated. The 22-carat gold oscillating weight features a guilloché barley grain motif. Michel Parmigiani has high expectations when it comes the brand's craftsmanship: each component, however small or hidden, deserves the very finest finishes. This attention to detail is what makes the Kalparisma Nova Collection so precious.
